Construction of 220 kV Transmission Lines with a Total Length of 180 km, Uzbekistan

Construction of 220 kV Transmission Lines with a Total Length of 180 km, Uzbekistan

General Project Information:

The construction of 220 kV overhead transmission lines with a total length of 213 km forms part of the ESTART Project, which aims to expand and modernize Uzbekistan’s main electricity transmission network. The new lines will connect the 500 kV Koltsevaya Substation with the Keles, Ozodlik, Yuksak and Feruz substations, enabling electricity transmission to the Tashkent Region, the country’s largest electricity consumption centre.

The project will reduce loading on the existing networks, improve the reliability of the electricity supply, decrease technical losses, enable the connection of new power plants and strengthen regional energy interconnections.

Location:

Tashkent Region, Uzbekistan

Scope of Work:

220 kV Overhead Transmission Line Civil and Installation Works:

  • Preparation of the transmission line route and excavation for tower foundations.
  • Construction of precast reinforced concrete and cast-in-place concrete tower foundations.
  • Waterproofing of foundations, backfilling, and soil compaction.
  • Assembly and erection of steel towers for the 220 kV overhead transmission lines.
  • Installation of tower grounding systems.

Conductor, Ground Wire and Line Equipment Installation:

  • Conductor stringing and tensioning, including sag adjustment and final securing.
  • Installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW).
  • Installation of communication cables and associated connection components.
  • Installation of insulators, suspension and tension hardware, and other line equipment.
  • Execution of required line connections and tie-ins in accordance with the project documentation.

Reconstruction of Existing Transmission Line Sections:

  • Dismantling of existing line components within the reconstruction areas.
  • Execution of relocation and reconstruction works at sections intersecting existing overhead transmission lines.

Quality Control, Testing and Commissioning:

  • Quality control of completed civil and installation works.
  • Verification of installation parameters for conductors, ground wires, and line equipment.
  • Verification of tower grounding systems.
  • Performance of project-specified tests on completed sections of the 220 kV overhead transmission lines.
  • Preparation of as-built documentation.
  • Participation in the acceptance process and preparation of the transmission lines for commissioning.
